Cascade Mountain first opened in Portage, Wisconsin in 1962. Phil and Adele—Walz's grandparents—purchased the resort from its original owners in 1977. At the time, there was only one lodge and a few chair lifts. But after Walz's parents, Rob and Vicki, took over in 2006, the family made a commitment to grow and upgrade the resort.

Cascade Mountain settles into solid winter season Area News
Just had the opportunity to ski at Cascade Mountain and had an excellent time. Used to ski regularly out west, but have been sidelined for that last 25 years. Drove up to Cascade Mtn for the 1st time and was pleasantly surprised. We skied on Tuesday 2/11, two days after a nice snowfall in the area. The trails were all groomed nicely.
